It’s almost time for Timber! Outdoor Music Festival, and we hope you’re at least half as excited as we are. We’re ready for a weekend of music, comedy and the activities from our friends at REI and more, but we have just a few things we want you all to know in advance, so please read this whole post and consider printing it out as well.
An Important Note About Alcohol
Howdy Campers: We need your help. Did you know that Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board and King County Parks laws and rules prohibit outside alcohol and all marijuana at Timber!? We have noticed that some of our campers have been bringing their own alcohol to Timber! While we hate to say it, this puts Timber! at great risk.
Washington State law and King County Parks clearly state that alcohol and marijuana are prohibited in the park.
But don’t worry — we’ve got you covered. We’ve gone to great lengths to set up two beverage gardens with some of the lowest priced beer, cider, and wine you’ll find anywhere that will be open from 11am – 1:00am every day of the festival. Plus, proceeds support The Benevolent Guild of Seattle who have been supporting Seattle area children’s charities for years, so you can feel extra good about helping us follow the rules of the park.
You can help us keep Timber! out of trouble by leaving your alcohol at home. We need everyone to participate so we can stay on good terms with the folks who let us have this great event in Carnation. Since outside alcohol puts our event at risk, this year,we’ll ask any campers in violation of this policy to take their alcohol back to their cars.

How to Get to Tolt-MacDonald Park
For your GPS pleasure, the address is 31020 NE 40th St. Carnation, WA 98014. But in case that fails, here are some actual directions from Seattle:
- Take WA 520 East for 6 miles
- Then take the WA 202/Redmond Way exit and stay right following signs for WA-202 E/Sammamish and continue onto WA-202 E for 7.7 miles
- In 7.7 miles take a slight left onto NE Tolt Hill Rd and follow for 3.2 miles
- Turn Left onto WA-203/Tolt Ave
- Follow signs into the park, which will be on your left!
King County Parks will charge $20 per car to park at King County’s Tolt-MacDonald Park unless you have purchased premium camping that includes parking (RV camping, Drive in Camping, Camper Van/Small Trailer Parking). Parking is cash only,so please be prepared with cash in hand and know that 100% of the profits from your parking fee go to support King County Parks.
We highly encourage carpooling! Not only is it good for the planet, it will save you money and create space for everyone.
Check-in and Check-out
- Check in time is 12PM Thurs. July 14.
- Check out time is 12PM Sun. July 17.
Take Thursday and Friday off work and arrive early! Claim your spots, set up camp early, and be ready when the music begins.
General or Family Area Campers
When you arrive at Tolt-MacDonald Park you will first meet a parking attendant who will collect your parking fee and direct you to the parking area. Once parked, make your way to the check-in area just ahead of the parking area on the main roadway to collect your festival passes and “tent tags”. From there you will be directed to your campsite. We will have volunteers on hand to help you move camping items to your campsiteI
Premium Drive-in, RV, Camper Van Campers
If you’ve purchased RV camping, Premium Drive-in camping, or Trailer/Camper van camping, please let the parking attendant know. They will have your name on hand and will direct you where to go.
Premium West Side, Premium Waterfront or Yurt Campers
If you’re camping on the west side of the bridge (Yurts, Premium West Side, Premium Waterfront and a small number of General Festival Camping) you will meet a parking attendant who will collect your parking fee and direct you to the parking area. Once parked, make your way to the check-in area just ahead of the parking area on the main roadway to collect your festival passes and “tent tags”.
For those of you camping in the General or Quiet camping areas, please know that the amount of space between tents will be about 2 feet per tent. Set up camp expecting to have your neighbors within that proximity of your camp. Be respectful to your neighbors and please keep noise to a minimum after hours. If you need to socialize while others may be sleeping, there are plenty of places you can walk to that are nice and away from campers. Please be sure that you have purchased 1 camping ticket for each tent you will need. This includes Pop-Up Tents.
What to Bring to Timber!
- Clothing – Come prepared to camp in the Northwest! Bring layers and prepare for rain. The festival will happen rain or shine so be prepared.
- Vision – Bring a flashlight and sunglasses so you will be covered when it is too bright or not bright enough.
- Mosquitos – Timber! Outdoor Music Festival takes place in a heavily wooded area along a river. We recommend preparing by bringing bug spray and bug deterrents of your choice.
- Shoes – Expect to walk through dirt, gravel and over wooden walking bridges. Plan your footwear accordingly.
- Sunscreen – Seriously, you’ll thank us later.
- Your ID – If you plan to spend time in our beer gardens, please bring your ID and have it on you at all times.
What to Leave at Home
- Outside Alcohol – As mentioned above, King County Park rules state that no outside alcohol is allowed in the park. We ask that guests following this rule and leave their alcohol at home. Please plan to enjoy the alcoholic beverages in one of our two beer gardens during the festival.
- The festival grounds will be fenced with entry through a checkpoint. We will not allow anyone to bring in outside alcohol. Even after you have been checked, please expect to be checked again, and again.
- Beer, cider and wine will be on sale in designated beer gardens. If you are over 21, please bring valid id. Carry it with you any time you may want to drink.
- Drink tokens are $6 for one or $20 for four drink tokens.
- Dogs/Cats and other animals – Dogs and other pets will not be permitted at the park during Timber! Outdoor Music Festival.
- Fireworks, Firearms, Drugs, Weapons of any kind, Etc. – No fireworks, firearms or drugs are allowed at Tolt-Macdonald Park.
- Smokes – King County Parks are non-smoking. Please plan accordingly.

Campfires & Cooking
Every Premium Accommodation has a fire pit and guests in those accommodations are welcome to have campfires in them. WE WILL HAVE WOOD included for premium campers, so there is no need to haul in wood.
Due to King County Fire regulations there are no open flames allowed in the General or Quiet Camping areas. You are allowed to cook in any of the BBQ pits or fire rings located by the covered shelters. REI members are welcome to use the “REI Camp Kitchen”.
Kids – Remember that children under 12 are free! Bring them out and expose them to music and the outdoors!
Swimming – There is no lifeguard on duty and we ask that you exercise extreme caution if choosing to wade or swim in the river at Tolt-MacDondald Park. Click here for information about swimming at Tolt-MacDonald Park.
Drinking water – It’s important to stay hydrated! There are several water sources around the park and camping areas. Drinking water is available in the Main Stage area, the General Camping restroom area, and in the Yurt Camping area. Please use your refillable water bottles when possible.
Beer and wine – We’re proud to offer beer, cider, wine, mimosas and more. And, as mentioned above, please please please do not have open containers outside of our beer gardens.
Shopping – We have an amazing collection of custom Timber! merchandise from our partners at KAVU and Stanley Thermos. Stop by our general store for these one of a kind Timber goods and pick up a free Timber sticker while you’re at it.
Cash and ATMs – Carry cash! ATMs are located near the park entrance as well as in the Main Stage and Yurt Camping Areas.
Ice – Just like last year, our friends at Carter Subaru will take some time to bring free ice around the campgrounds!
Trash – Like any good camper, try to follow the “leave no trace” backpacker motto and pack out what you pack in. Please dispose of your trash at the end of the festival. Help us by going a step further—if you see something on the ground that didn’t grow there, pick it up, and put it in the nearest bin. We’re all in this together!
Food – Hungry? We imagine you will be. That’s why we’ve lined up some of the best Northwest food vendors to join us this year. Grabbing salads and sandwiches on-the-go will be easier than ever. A few of our vendors:

Shopping in Carnation – Local retailers have everything you need from groceries to hardware, all within walking distance of the festival! When you visit local businesses, be sure to tell them you’re there for Timber! Help us show some love to the great community of Carnation. These local and family-owned businesses have been great partners and are excited to have us!
Photos and blogging – We love seeing pictures, but remember you’re here to experience the festival and be with friends. Sometimes putting the phones and iPads down is the best first step toward having an amazing experience outdoors. If you do snap a picture or two, hashtag #TimberFest when posting them on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. If you post your photos on Flickr or write a blog about us, shoot us a message on Facebook after the festival to let us know. We’d love to share!
Help each other – While you’re at Timber!, if you see something that needs improvement or someone that needs help, please help us out if you are able. We’re all in this together!
Respect your neighbors – We love the city and people of Carnation. Please remember that we’re all guests in their town and to be courteous to the locals while there.
